A2 English – Giving and Understanding Directions – Ex 17

Giving directions means telling someone how to get to a place. Understanding directions means listening carefully and following the steps. At A2 level, you’ll use simple verbs (go, turn, cross) and prepositions of place (next to, between, in front of) to explain or follow a route clearly.

1. Giving Movement Instructions

Use these phrases to tell someone what to do:

✅ “Go straight for two blocks, then turn left.”

2. Describing Where Something Is

Use these to show the location of your destination:

✅ “The museum is between the library and the hotel.”

3. Full Direction Example

“Start here. Go straight until you reach the traffic lights. Turn right. Go past the cinema. The bookstore is on your left, next to the pharmacy.”

🔑 Key tips:
• Use short, clear steps.
• Mention landmarks (bank, park, school).
• Always say left or right—never “turn here.”

Quick Reference
