Chapter 10 - B1 English Grammar – Adjectives and Adverbs: Advanced Placement and Emphasis – Ex 10
Adjectives describe nouns; adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. At B1 level, you must place them correctly, use intensifiers accurately, form comparatives properly, and distinguish confusing pairs like good/well and late/lately.
Adjectives and Adverbs: Key Differences
- Adjectives describe nouns:
a fast car, She is happy.
- Adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs:
He drives carefully. It’s extremely hot.
- Formation: Many adverbs = adjective + -ly
quick → quickly, happy → happily
Exception: Some adverbs have the same form as adjectives: fast, hard, late, early.
