Present Tenses: Simple and Continuous Quiz
This quiz focuses on choosing the correct present tense form. You must decide between the **Present Simple** for routines, facts, and schedules, and the **Present Continuous** for temporary actions happening now or set future plans.
English Lesson: Present Simple and Continuous
You need both tenses to describe current situations. The choice depends on the type of action you discuss.
Form and Use: Present Simple
Use Present Simple for regular events, permanent facts, and schedules.
- Habits and Routines: You repeat these actions daily or weekly. Example: She wakes up at seven every day.
- General Facts: These statements are always true. Example: Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
- Scheduled Events: Fixed public schedules. Example: The train leaves at 6:00 p.m.
- Form: Subject + base verb (add **'s** or **'es** for he, she, it).
Form and Use: Present Continuous
Use Present Continuous for ongoing, temporary, or future actions.
- Action Now: The event is happening at this exact moment. Example: They are studying for the test now.
- Temporary Situations: The action lasts for a short time. Example: He is living with his parents this month.
- Future Arrangements: Definite, personal plans. Example: We are meeting John tonight.
- Form: Subject + am/is/are + verb + **-ing**.
Choosing The Right Form
Identify the time frame. This is your practical insight.
- Always vs. Now: He works in an office is his permanent job. He is working from home today is a temporary action.
- Fact vs. Observation: The sun rises in the east is a fact. Look! The sun is setting beautifully is a current observation.
