Where Do Adjectives Go in a Sentence?

  • Usually, adjectives come before the noun: a small dog, a happy child
  • Sometimes, adjectives come after the verb “to be”: The dog is small. The child is happy.

Using More Than One Adjective

  • You can put two or more adjectives together.
  • Order matters. Usually: Opinion + Size + Age + Color + Origin + Material + Noun
  • Example: a beautiful big old white Spanish house

  • When you describe something using be (am, is, are): The soup is hot. The movie is interesting.
