Possessive pronouns replace a noun. They must match the gender (m/f) and number (sing/pl) of the object they replace. They are almost always used with a definite article: el, la, los, las.

Suyo/suya covers yours (formal), his, hers, and theirs. Context makes the owner clear.

After the verb ser, you can often drop the article (el/la). To avoid confusion with suyo, add a de phrase.

To show possession for names and titles, use: [object] + de + [owner]. The object always comes first — unlike English.

When de is followed by the masculine article el, they must contract to del. This does NOT happen with la, los, or las.
